The egg of  Lestidae

A final renewal day is September 20, 2003.

It is nine days at June though April is thirteen days when the durations of egg of Indolestes peregrinus is investigated. Durations of eggs varies in temperature like this. Sympecma paedisca, Indolestes peregrinus , Lestes sponsa and Lestes japonicus seem to lay often eggs in the rush, the reed-mace and other aquatic plants which appears on the surface of the water. It lays eggs with Lestes temporalis in the stem of the trees growing in the surroundings of the pond.

How to obtaining eggs : The female which lays eggs is found. Then, the plant that it lays eggs is collected. When Lestes sponsa Lestes temporalis, and Indolestes peregrinus lays eggs, scar of oviposition is left in the plant. It is collected in search of this scar of oviposition.

1.  Lestes sponsa (Hansemann)

Size: Right after laying; head diameter; 1.51mm, a short diameter 0.26mm. Just before hatching; head diameter 1.69mm, a short diameter; 0.32mm. Duration of egg : The shortest duration; 17days. Average duration; 150days.

The egg of Lestes sponsa that it lays eggs in autumn hatches in the next spring as usual. But, it often hatches before and after twenty days when an egg is put on the inside whose temperature is high.

2.  Lestes temporalis Selys

Size: Just before hatching; head diameter 1.78mm, a short diameter; 0.34mm. Duration of egg :  The shortest duration; 11days. Average duration; 150days〜220days.

Size right after laying isn't clear because it is the egg taken out from the trees with the scar of oviposition.
About late October is the prime of laying. But, the eggs taken out from the branch in March are the early stages of the embryonic development still. It hatches in about fifteen days when that egg is put on the inside. A larva grows quickly. It emergence in about sixty days.
