The egg of Libellulidae 1

A final renewal day is September 23, 2003.

Libellulidae except for Sympetrum with the record in Kinki area are 15 kinds. The species that I haven't observed an egg yet are Libellula angelina, Tramea transmarine euryale and Tholymis tillarga. Collection is prohibited with Libellula Angelina which is species that it is apprehensive for the extinction. Tramea transmarine euryale and Tholymis tillarga are species that it is seldom collected in Kinki area. There is an egg of a form to look like a globular form in Sympetrum. But, the shape of the egg except for Sympetrum of Libellulidae is a form to look like an ellipsoid. (The egg of Tramea is almost a globular form.) An egg and each prolalva appeared on this page, too.

How to obtaining eggs : A female of Pseudothemis zonata and Deielia phaon lays eggs alone in the plant and so on which floated in the surface of the water. So, that plant and so on is collected. Other species collect the female which lays eggs. It lays eggs when female valvula valvae is soaked in water.
