The egg of Libellulidae（Sympetrum）

The egg of Sympetrum is the form which looks like a globular form or an ellipsoid. Size, a form, a color and others are different with Species little by little. The dragonflies of Sympetrum recorded in Kinki area are 18 species. I observed 17 species of Sympetrum. Sympetrum fonscolombei is recorded in Kinki area several times by now. As for Sympetrum, it lays eggs in autumn from the end of summer. Durations of egg of Sympetrum striolatum imitoides and Sympetrum speciosum speciosum are short. But, the egg of other species hatches in spring in the next year. It is about a reference because it is an indoor record though durations of egg varies according to temperature (temperature and water temperature) greatly.
How to obtaining eggs :
It prepares for the small container which put water. The female which lays eggs is collected. A female lays eggs when valvula valvae is soaked in water in the container.Figure12-1
