English version    Exuviae of Aeshnidae 1      Exuviae of Aeshnidae 3

This page is exuviae of Gynacantha, Polycanthagyna, Aeshna, Anaciaeschna.

The small larva of Aeshna and Anaciaeschna resemble well even which.  However, we distinguish the larva and exuviae that grew with the size of exuviae and the form of labium.

Each sign is expressing the following.  a: labium, b: figure that saw the head from the back, c: female primary genitalia, d: end hook of labium

6 Gynacantha japonica Bartenef Size of exuviae Length: 33-38average:36.0mm, Head width :7.5mm, Width of the abdomen: 6.0mm ( The width of the abdomen is a maximum value.) Lateral spine is in 6-9 abdominal segment.

7 Polycanthagyna melanictera (Selys) Size of exuviae Length: 42-51average:47.6mm, Head width :9.1mm, Width of the abdomen: 7.9mm ( The width of the abdomen is a maximum value.) Lateral spine is in 6-9 abdominal segment.

8 Aeshna juncea (Linnaeus) Size of exuviae Length: 43-50average:46.3mm, Head width :9.0mm, Width of the abdomen: 7.7mm ( The width of the abdomen is a maximum value.) Lateral spine is in 6-9 abdominal segment.Aeshna juncea resembles with Aeshna nigroflava. However, as for Aeshna juncea labium is short more Aeshna nigroflava. Female primary genitalia of Aeshna juncea is shorter than that of Aeshna nigroflava.

9 Aeshna nigroflava Martin Size of exuviae Length: 44-54average:49.0mm, Head width :10.0mm, Width of the abdomen: 9.4mm ( The width of the abdomen is a maximum value.) Lateral spine is in 6-9 abdominal segment.

11 Anaciaeschna martini (Selys)  Size of exuviae Length: 37-42average:38.3mm, Head width :8.1mm, Width of the abdomen: 7.9mm ( The width of the abdomen is a maximum value.) Lateral spine is in 6-9 abdominal segment.  Exuviae of Anaciaeschna martini resembles in Aeshna juncea. However, exuviae of Anaciaeschna martini is a little bit small. There are 2 dark line form patterns in the abdomen back of the larva of Anaciaeschna martini. There are many cases this pattern is remaining to exuviae. Labium of Anaciaeschna martini is shorter than that of Aeshna juncea.
