The final renewal day of this page is September 14, 2003.

Lestes that it inhabits Kinki area are Lestes sponsa , Lestes temporalis and Lestes japonicus.
The inhabiting environment of Lestes sponsa and Lestes japonicus looks alike.
Some egg-parasitoids wasp parasitizes two species of Lestes sponsa and Lestes japonicus

Figure1-2 :The egg-parasitoids wasp which parasitized Lestes sponsa and Lestes japonicus.

This egg-parasitoids wasp seems to be distributed widely. This egg-parasitoid parasitizes both species of Lestes sponsa and Lestes japonicus. The egg-parasitoids wasp of the figure parasitized the egg of Lestes japonicus. This plant is Scirpus triqueter L. There is the egg of Lestes sponsa in this plant.  The length of this female is about 1.20 mm.  A white arrow in the figure shows an ovipositor.

Figure1-3: The male which emerged is waiting for the female which happens that it passes by.
A male rides on the female and copulates. Copulation continuous time is several seconds.

Figure1-7: 1. The larva of egg-parasitoids wasp grows up in the egg.  A larva breaks an egg after that, and goes to the outside of the egg. Then, it becomes a pupa in the suitable gap of the plant organization.  A plant is bitten, and a hole is made, and this egg-parasitoids wasp comes out. (a. A wound on the surface of the plant when Lestes sponsa laid eggs. b. The hole which an egg-parasitoids wasp made by itself )  2. Another egg- parasitoid ♂ which parasitized Lestes sponsa. The size of this egg-parasitoids wasp. ♀: body length 0.80mm;antenna length 0.65mm. ♂: The antenna of male is longer than female.
